Les Coureurs des Bois de Fort de Chartres is a flintlock only muzzle loading gun club that meets at and supports Fort de Chartres through the support of special events and interpretation. The club has been meeting exclusively at the fort for over 40 years now. Although some of the attire and firearms have changed since the club came to be, one thing has not changed over the 40 plus years and that is the passion for black powder shooting and the history of the fort and surrounding area. Unlike some similar gun clubs, Les Coureurs des Bois de Fort de Chartres gets to meet and shoot at one of the most picturesque and historically significant historic sites in the Midwest, Fort de Chartres State Historic Site. Meeting at and supporting a historic site has its opportunities and challenges, of which the club welcomes with open arms. Among these opportunities and challenges are hosting special events at the fort, the summer and winter rendezvous (which are two of the largest events held at the fort), sponsoring workshops and providing countless volunteer hours at the site. It is safe to say that some of our members consider the fort to be their second home.
For information about the Les Coureurs des Bois or how to join, you can contact: Fort de Chartres State Historic Site at, by phone, 618-284-7230 or Jason at 618-340-2928, or email – email@example.com.
