Fort d Chartres Special Events Update

posted in: Uncategorized 0

Today’s warm weather and sunshine are bittersweet, as normally The Kaskaskia Company and Les Amis du Fort de Chartres would be busy presenting the Colonial Trade Faire and Musket &Rifle Frolic. But Mother Nature had different plans for the area this year as Prairie du Rocher closed its flood gates in anticipation of the flooding of Hwy 155, the main access road to the site. This action results in the automatic closure of the Fort site until the flood gates reopen. We thank everyone for their support and understanding. Just as the inhabitants’ living in the area centuries ago, we will persevere and look forward to presenting next year’s Trade Faire, one of our favorite events. Again we thank so many of participant registrants for their donation of their event fee to help us cover the expenses we incurred in preparation for the event.  Next on our schedule is the annual Kids’ Day, May 4, and the 49th Annual Fort de Chartres Rendezvous, June 1 & 2, and we can’t wait!

UPDATE: Kids’ Day has been cancelled due to the continued closure of Prairie du Rocher flood gates. Preparations continue for the annual June Rendezvous!

The event cancellation makes us fully realize the support of our community for Fort de Chartres Special Events, and how important these donations are, especially in this type of circumstance. We have new donors to our new Les Amis du Fort de Chartres 2019 Special Events Giving Campaign. We appreciate our new donors, First National Bank of Steeleville, MAR Graphics, Roeslein & Associates, Inc., and The Material Works, Ltd. These businesses join Buena Vista National Bank, Harrisonville Telephone Company (HTC), Red Bud Industries , Red Bud Masonic Lodge 427, Weir Chevrolet Buick GMC, as well as individual donors, Karyn and Herman  Albers, as 2019 Les Amis Special Event Giving Campaign  donors. Without this support, we could not present Fort de Chartres Special Events, especially the 49th Annual Rendezvous now fast approaching.

Please express your appreciation and thanks to our sponsors for their continued support of special events at Fort de Chartres when you next do business or interact in our communities. These businesses and sponsors are vital to Les Amis’ ability to present special events at Fort de Chartres and so important to all the other communities and businesses that depend on these events to bring visitors and tourists to the site and to our region. If you own a business or would personally like to contribute to Special Events at Fort de Chartres, a downloadable form is available on line at http://www.fortdechartres.us/events/. Or you can email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com.

We must thank our general membership for continuing to send in their 2019 Les Amis membership forms and accompanying donations. Your donations and support mean everything as we continue to support the site and its cultural history. The updated Les Ami general donor list has recently been posted for those donations received through 3.28.19. You can view the donor list at http://www.fortdechartres.us/les-amis-du-fort-de-chartres/.

And remember, Les Amis du Fort de Chartres has a call for volunteers, if you would like to be a part of this amazing community. We are currently looking for volunteers to help support Kids’ Day in early May and for the historic 49th Annual Fort de Chartres Rendezvous in early June. Come join us in sharing our site’s important history and its community! Please email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com for volunteer information.

Merci à tous (thanks to all)!
