Les Amis has been very active these past few months pursuing projects that celebrate the Fort and its history. One of our educational projects we feel very passionate about is a new line-art publication, French Colonial Fort de Chartres, a Journey in Time, depicting “Forgotten Illinois” pre-statehood years of 1755-1756 in and around Fort de Chartres. “A Journey in Time” will be a 36-40-page line-art one color publication, created by award-winning artist Tom Willcockson and published by Les Amis du Fort de Chartres. Tom is the artist of the current interactive pamphlet available at the fort and he has two other publications Twelve Moons: A Year with the Sauk and Meskwaki, 1817-1818 and Passage to Chicago: A Journey on the Illinois & Michigan Canal in the Year 1860. Both of these books have won the Illinois Association of Museums’ Superior Achievement Award. The art style of this publication is unique to other published histories, will appeal to and present a great visual perspective for young adults and the general public, and will be a much needed history book in schools and libraries. We strive to have this book available for purchase by the end of August of this year.
Announcement! Illinois Humanities has awarded a “Forgotten Illinois” grant of $2,500 to Les Amis du Fort de Chartres to be used toward the production of French Colonial Fort de Chartres: A Journey in Time. Les Amis has been working hard seeking financial support for A Journey in Time to be published by Les Amis du Fort de Chartres. Les Amis is honored to have received this IL Humanities grant and to have our project valued and chosen among the many other proposed projects.
While this grant is a huge help in our efforts to fund this publication, we still need your support. You can be a part of this exciting educational effort and have a great new t-shirt to show it! To support this project, we are offering online, the popular Les Amis t-shirt we sold during last’s years Winter Rendezvous, with all sales dedicated to Les Amis’s educational project’s, including this book’s publication. It is fitting that this t-shirt features an updated version of one of Tom’s previous Fort de Chartres drawings. Les Amis thanks everyone for their willingness to support our efforts to expand educational projects dedicated to preserving and protecting Fort de Chartres physical and cultural traditions and helping spread the word of their importance to our region’s history. You can show your support and purchase your t-shirt by clicking on the image below for an order form. And if you would like to donate directly to this educational publication without purchasing a t-shirt, can cal also do so at this link-“French Colonial Fort de Chartres-A Journey in Time”. Merci!
