49th Annual Fort de Chartres Rendezvous-Cancelled

To directly support the Fort de Chartres 50th Rendezvous, please DONATE NOW!

After assessing forecast river levels and evaluating the state of the grounds around Fort de Chartres, the Rendezvous Planning Committee and Site Staff have made the hard decision to cancel the 49th Annual Fort de Chartres Rendezvous. This decision was not an easy one, as it affects the local community, a multitude of businesses, and individuals. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and support, with a special thanks to our sponsors who give generously every year. Their continued support makes the planning and success of special events at the Fort possible. We will definitely miss seeing everyone this year and we share in the disappointment of this announcement, but we look forward to seeing everyone a year from now to celebrate the 50th Annual Fort de Chartres Rendezvous, June 6-7, 2020!

Thank you,

Jason Duensing

Rendezvous Planning Committee Chairperson

We thank the Levee Commissioners, local government, and residents for their hard work protecting this historic area.

Les Coureurs des Bois de Fort de Chartres  and Les Amis du Fort de Chartres 48th June Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres Sponsors

here are a lot of special events at Fort de Chartres, but the Rendezvous held in June has always been the most popular. For 48 years now thousands of visitors and hundreds of participants have made the Rendezvous one of the biggest and best historic reenactments in the Midwest. ‘Course if you ask one of the participants they’ll tell you it IS the Biggest and it IS the Best anywhere, some call it “The Grand Daddy of them all!”  We’ll let you decide.

Visitors strolling through the fort will find artisan and craft demonstrations that include pottery, blacksmithing, metal-working in silver and pewter, felt-making, silk ribbon embroidery, weaving and woodworking. Many items will be for sale. Music pops up throughout the weekend with performances from fife-and-drum troops, string bands, folk duos, and more.

The River Gate Food Court will feature a variety of period food, drink and musical entertainment under a large tent.

The Rendezvous features 1700’s military units, traditional craft demonstrations, period music and dancing, black powder shooting events and cannon firings all from the time when France controlled what is now Illinois.
