Fort de Chartres Winter Rendezvous & Woodswalk

Saturday, November 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sunday, November 7, 10. a.m.-3 p.m.

This annual event features 18th and early 19th century camp life and reenactors who participate in a muzzleloader woods walk shooting competition. Fort de Chartres State Historic Site presents a weekend of colorful clothing, hand-made crafts, period music and delicious food when the annual Winter Rendezvous returns November 6 & 7.

Soldiers, trappers, traders and Native Americans (as portrayed by historic reenactors) will gather at the rendezvous. They’ll trade goods, buy supplies, and some will take part in a shooting contest that requires them to walk through the surrounding woods and fire flintlocks at pop-up targets.

Winter Rendezvous is fun for both for the participants demonstrating frontier life from 1700 to1820 and for visitors spending an autumn day wandering among the tents, campfires, and the historic French colonial fort. The event is open and free to the general public. This event is hosted by Les Coureurs des Bois de Fort de Chartres and sponsored by Les Amis du Fort de Chartres and Illinois Humanities.

Les Amis du Fort de Chartres and the Fort de Chartres Rendezvous Committee are sending out an urgent call for volunteers to help with the set-up and tear down required for events like the Winter Rendezvous. With just a week away for participants to begin showing up on site to set-up their camps for the event, there are only a few volunteer slots that have been filled for event set-up (October 30th and November 4th) and event tear-down on November 8.*  Out of the 20 volunteer slots required to cover those 3 days, only 3 have been filled. Additionally there are still open a few volunteer slots in the Trading Post during the event Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. To sign up online for any of these volunteer opportunities that make Winter Rendezvous possible please click on this WR form on SignUp Genius. Volunteers need to sign-up online in advance-for questions email We thank everyone who volunteers at Fort de Chartres, your support enables special events at Fort de Chartres to continue. Merci!
